Abstract
Chicken coop security is a crucial factor in ensuring the sustainability of livestock businesses, as the risk of theft can cause significant losses for farmers. Manual monitoring alone is insufficient to prevent theft because continuous monitoring is difficult and timely information cannot always be provided when security breaches occur. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based security monitoring system for laying hen coops that can automatically detect movement and send real-time notifications to the coop owner. The developed system uses an ESP32 as the main controller, a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor to detect movement, an ultrasonic sensor to detect object distance, a buzzer as a warning alarm, a stepper motor as an actuator, and Telegram as a notification medium. The research method includes hardware design, software development, system integration, and component performance testing. The test results show that the PIR sensor can detect movement up to a distance of 5 meters, the ultrasonic sensor can detect objects at a distance of 1 m, and the system successfully sends notifications to Telegram with an average delivery time of approximately 1 second after an object is detected. Furthermore, functional testing results indicate that all components work as designed and are well integrated. The developed system can improve the effectiveness of real-time monitoring of laying hen coops and help minimize the risk of theft through an IoT-based early warning mechanism.
