Large-Language Models as a Cognitive Virus

This work proposes that their diffusion can be understood through a viral analogy, with LLM use spreading through populations, becoming embedded in cognitive and cultural practices, and highlights how LLM adoption may involve nonlinear collective transitions with important consequences for cognitive autonomy.

HypRQ-VAE: Hyperbolic Item Indexing for Long-Tail-Aware Generative Recommender Systems

Hyperbolic Residual-Quantized Variational AutoEncoder (HypRQ-VAE), the first framework to learn item indexing in hyperbolic space, is introduced, which significantly improves the performance of recommendation, particularly in recommending tail items.

Efficacy of Probiotic Supplementation for Preventing Pediatric Urinary Tract Infections: A GRADE‐Based Dose–Response Meta‐Analysis

ABSTRACT Background and Aims Probiotic supplementation has been proposed as a non‐antibiotic strategy for preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children, but its efficacy remains uncertain. We evaluated the effects of probiotic supplementation on pediatric UTI incidence or recurrence, explored potential dose–re...

Universal Flow and Shear: A Model of Cosmic Motion

The universe moves. Not just galaxies drifting apart — everything, at every scale, is in directional flow through a physical substrate that fills space. That substrate is not empty. It has mechanical properties: resistance, shear, compression, and flow gradients. This paper presents a unified model — the Unified Substr...

Measuring Frozen Accidents: Path-Dependent Emergence in Complex Adaptive Systems

Emergent order in technologies, living systems, and now learned machines is often a frozen accident: a system reliably organizes, but which organization forms is selected by history, not fixed by fundamentals. This is path dependence: an early lead under increasing returns locks in, as with QWERTY or VHS. Yet our measu...

A Multi-Layer Security Framework for Prompt Injection and Knowledge Poisoning Mitigation in Agentic Retrieval-Augmented Generation Systems

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) improves the factual usefulness of Large Language Models (LLMs) by grounding generation in external knowledge. When RAG is combined with autonomous agents, the system can plan multi-step tasks, retrieve information, and invoke external tools, but the additional autonomy also creates...

When Muon Tomography Meets Unknown Cargo: A Falsification Study of High-Z Detection

Can cosmic-ray muons detect hidden high-Z material in unknown cargo? A plain-language summary of a one-day computational study. Quantum Clarity LLC · September 2026 Repository: muon-tomography-lab The short version We built a computer simulation to test whether a particular statistical method could detect a block of de...

CAMEL: Fixed-Work Residual Memory for CPU-Oriented Language Models

CAMEL investigates external residual memory for small language models intended for CPU execution. The main study uses a recurrent byte-level student with two compiled memories: an exact surface 4-gram memory and a learned latent residual memory. A 32-byte table selects between the two using support-count bins.On three...

Three Bets on the Future of Software: Compiler Compiler System AI-Assisted Construction

The conversation about artificial intelligence has narrowed to two competing bets about how human-level capability is built. The first, held by the major frontier labs, is that scaling neural networks produces general intelligence as an emergent property. The second, held by a smaller community in the cognitive-science...

From Paper Manifests to Real-Time GPS: The Fascinating Evolution of Package Tracking Technology

Not that long ago, buying something from a mail-order catalog or an early online storefront was an exercise in pure patience. You submitted your order, crossed your fingers, and waited out the standard disclaimer: “Please allow four to six weeks for delivery.” During those weeks, your item existed in a logistical black...

Proof-based general-purpose computing with Magnetar

Zero-knowledge proofs can verify computing results without rerunning workloads or exposing sensitive data. Magnetar helps bring them into the mainstream with support for standard programming languages, major speed gains, and quantum-resistant security. The post Proof-based general-purpose computing with Magnetar appeared first on Microsoft Research.
