MXAttention: Data-Free Optimal Scaling and Pre-Normalization Quantization for MXFP4 Attention

The quadratic cost of attention is a major bottleneck in diffusion-based video generation models. MXFP4 attention provides a promising path toward efficient inference, but direct MXFP4 quantization often degrades generation quality due to two numerical issues: the clipping-underflow trade-off from power-of-two scaling and the row-wise normalization error introduced in the softmax loop. We propose MXAttention, a data-free post-training quantization framework for MXFP4 attention. MXAttention introduces two components: Universal Optimal Scaling (UOS), which exploits the periodic structure of power-of-two microscaling to derive a distribution-independent optimal scaling boundary Qmax=7.25 without calibration or search, and Pre-Normalization Quantization (PNQ), which quantizes unnormalized softmax exponentials before row-wise summation to preserve normalization by construction. Experiments on Wan2.2 and HunyuanVideo show that MXAttention closes at least 95% of the VBench Imaging Quality gap between OCP MXFP4 and FP16, substantially improves frame-level similarity, and preserves FP16-level generation quality with less than 0.01 absolute degradation on all reported VBench metrics. MXAttention also achieves performance competitive with strong NVFP4-based baselines with negligible overhead when fused into the attention pipeline. The implementation is publicly available in MindIE-SD.

Kaleido: Algorithm-Hardware Co-Design for Video Diffusion Transformers by Exploiting Latent Space Correlations

Video diffusion transformers (vDiTs) generate high quality video but introduce extremely high compute cost due to the long diffusion timesteps and self attention computation. As diffusion timesteps are reduced, the computation cost of self attention becomes the dominant bottleneck. Existing acceleration approaches largely inherit sparse attention techniques from large language models, which fail to consider the unique spatiotemporal correlation of video data. This paper presents Kaleido, an algorithm hardware codesign that accelerates all operations in vDiTs by exploiting channel-wise spatiotemporal correlations in latent space. Based on this insight, we propose a lightweight channelwise reuse algorithm that skips redundant computations by reusing partial results while preserving higher generative quality than prior methods (>17 dB). To efficiently support this algorithm, we design a systolic array like accelerator with reconfigurable processing elements and a lightweight data dispatcher to mitigate irregular sparsity and data access patterns introduced by our reuse algorithm. Evaluations across three mainstream vDiT models show that Kaleido achieves up to 5.9x speedup and 16.0x energy savings over state of the art accelerators.

BiSCo-LLM: Lookup-Free Binary Spherical Coding for Extreme Low-Bit Large Language Model Compression

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly constrained by memory capacity, weight bandwidth, and checkpoint storage during deployment. Existing low-bit compression methods mainly follow two directions. Scalar or group-wise quantization is simple and compatible with efficient low-precision kernels, but its representation capacity becomes limited when the target budget approaches 2 bits per weight. Vector-quantized weight compression provides a richer block-level representation, but usually introduces explicit codebooks, index lookup, and additional storage accounting. This paper presents BiSCo-LLM, a codebook-free binary spherical coding framework for extreme low-bit LLM weight compression. The core pipeline is built on three components. First, local weight chunks are mapped onto a unit hypersphere and binarized into compact spherical codes, so that the main payload is a bit-packed sign stream rather than explicit VQ centroids. Second, a residual BSQ stage encodes the reconstruction error left by the base spherical codec, providing an explicit rate-distortion path without stored codebooks. Third, category-wise recovery distillation is performed after replacing each Transformer module category, reducing the mismatch between local weight reconstruction and assembled model behavior. A small 8-bit protected-channel path is used as an auxiliary stabilization mechanism for sensitive channels and is counted separately from the BSQ payload. The reported storage budget includes binary codes, neural decoders, protected-channel payloads, LoRA adapters, and metadata.
