The article systematically deconstructs popular myths about the so-called “historical progress”: the idea of linear, forward-moving, and ascending process of increasing complexity of society; the link between this complexification and the adoption of technologies that mark its stages; the progressive, stage-by-stage evolution of the family; and the supposedly logically necessary connection between the Neolithic Revolution (the transition from gathering-hunting to productive economy), the emergence of surplus value, class formation (social stratification and differentiation), and the emergence of statehood and writing systems. Instead, it substantiates the concept of social evolution as a set of continuous, purely adaptive changes with a constantly shifting vector. In this process, the increasing complexity of the system leads to greater fragility and the accumulation of internal contradictions, which eventually resolve through a “reset” - a return to original simplicity through regularly and predictably occurring catastrophes or collapses. It is also emphasized that an inseparable and bidirectional (mutual) relationship exists between the socio-cultural environmental conditions and the selection pressures they exert on allelic gene variants involved in encoding social behaviour - including economic and political dimensions - within the context of intraspecific individual variability. In turn, a change in the ratio of these alleles alters the social environment. This perspective presents biosocial evolution as a unified, indivisible process.

This paper is a continuation of the article “Biological Foundations of Ethics and Morality” and focuses on the diversity and variability of moral and ethical norms, attitudes, and values. It provides a comprehensive overview of key concepts and approaches to the analysis of value attitudes, encompassing both established academic frameworks and non-academic paradigms. The study examines existing approaches to characterising the ethos of various social systems, groups, and cultures. In addition, it reviews typologies and theoretical models that address individual variability and trait dispersion in relation to moral norms, values, and patterns of social behaviour. It further explores how individual personality traits - including those with a moral dimension - correlate with morphological and physiological characteristics, neuroendocrine activity, and the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Among other topics, the paper offers a critical discussion of the Moral Foundations Theory proposed by Jonathan Haidt and Craig Joseph, several lay typologies pertaining to differential ethics, and concepts centred on the Trolley Problem and its numerous analogues and variations. The paper concludes by introducing three original typologies: the Typology of Basic Values (TBV), the Sociobehavioural Typology (SBT), and its complement, the Socio-Role Typology (SRT). These typologies link individual neurophysiological traits to the evolutionary dynamics and developmental logic of large-scale social systems.
