Left Ventricular Functional Improvement is Associated With Lower Morbidity and Mortality During Long-Term Mechanical Circulatory Support: An STS Intermacs Analysis.

BACKGROUND A subset of patients with advanced heart failure (HF) supported with durable left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) demonstrate significant improvement in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), but the impact of such functional improvement on clinical outcomes is unclear. METHODS We analyzed adults in...

Cardiomyocyte-specific loss of Smyd5 leads to a robust activation of inflammatory signaling and heart failure in mice

It is demonstrated that loss of Smyd5 induces rapid progression to heart failure accompanied by robust inflammatory activation, including a ∼100-fold increase in Il-6 expression, accompanied by rapid progression of cardiac remodeling and heart failure.

Excessive EFHD1-dependent ER-mitochondrial contacts drive a maladaptive antiviral response in metabolic liver disease

It is shown that EFHD1, a Ca2+-dependent actin cross-linker, stabilizes endoplasmic reticulum–mitochondria contact sites (ERMCS) by detecting spatiotemporal coincidence of interorganellar proximity and ER Ca2+ release, and suggested EFHD1 inhibition as a therapeutic strategy.
