Carriers of rare protein-truncating variants in schizophrenia risk genes were identified in 30,813 patients of a US healthcare system and an X-linked pattern of inheritance between the PTV and severe mental illness was found.
Together, these results implicate a constellation of rare variants that map onto neuronal biology and demonstrate that diverse global populations converge on shared genetic signals underlying BD risk.
