Integrating Family Ethics Into Nursing Education: A Relational Framework for Developing Ethical Competence in Family Nursing.
Ethical challenges in family nursing arise within relational contexts where illness, decision-making, and vulnerability are experienced collectively. Although family-centered care is central to nursing practice, ethical education remains largely individualistic, limiting preparation for relational complexity. This conceptual article proposes an integrated view of ethical competence as a dynamic capacity shaped by cognitive-interpretive, relational-emotional, and moral-action dimensions. Drawing on ethics of care, relational ethics, and family nursing scholarship, it examines how ethical competence develops in clinical encounters with families and identifies educational pathways to support this process. Approaches such as situated learning, simulation, interprofessional and reflective practices, and global learning environments are highlighted as ways to translate ethical theory into practice. The article argues that integrating family ethics into nursing education requires curricular alignment, faculty development, and collaboration between academic and clinical settings, strengthening nurses' ability to engage ethically with families in complex health care contexts.
