A subsystem of tasks for developing Turkish linguosociocultural competence in reading through poetic texts
The article focuses on the development of a subsystem of tasks aimed at fostering Turkish linguosociocultural competence in reading through the use of poetic texts. The systemic organization of the tasks presupposes the following features: sequential execution aligned with the stages of text work; logical coherence and interrelation between tasks; multiplicity of task types; integration of linguistic and sociocultural material; gradual increase in complexity;and orientation toward competence-based, communicative, linguosociocultural, and hermeneutic approaches. The subsystem also relies on key teaching principles such as the authenticity of text materials, a competence-oriented methodology, the interconnection of language and culture learning, consideration of students’ native language and culture, the development of learners’ creativity, communicative focus, reliance on linguistic units, the use of supplementary informational sources, and prior study of the poetic text’s cultural context. The implementation of the subsystem is integrated into project-based learning technology, which is carried out within the framework of problem-based, inquiry-based, and research-oriented teaching methods. The subsystem functions through three main stages. At the pre-text stage, students’ background knowledge about the author’s worldview and civic stance is activated; the thematic field of the poem is introduced (providing learners with essential factual information for adequate perception of the text); conceptual, logical, and linguistic difficulties are addressed; and predictions regarding the poem’s content and main idea are made. At the while-readingstage, students read the poetic text and perform tasks directed toward achieving a communicative goal focused on comprehension of the text’s meaning. The post-reading stage involves verifying the understanding of the text’s content, engaging in problem-based discussions of the poem, and critically processing the information through short-term research projects.
