5G Use Case Labs for Financial Services

This study, titled "5G Use Case Labs for Financial Services," evaluates the technological parameters, network performance, and financial feasibility of deploying dedicated 5G use case labs in retail banking. The transition to high-speed digital banking is supported by 5G technologies, including network slicing and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), which deliver ultra-low latency and packet security. A five-year project lifecycle (2021-2025) of a bank's 5G lab investment is evaluated using standard capital budgeting parameters: Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period (PBP), and Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR). Quantitative analysis reveals that high-frequency algorithmic trading represents 35% of use cases. Deploying 5G MEC edge nodes reduces transaction network latency to 0.8 milliseconds, maintaining a 99.80% trade execution success rate under peak simulated loads and supporting 42 active pilot projects by 2025. The financial model yields a positive NPV of 284.5 Crores and an IRR of 38.6%, far exceeding the 10% discount hurdle rate. The study concludes that allocating capital toward 5G use case labs is highly viable, providing commercial banks with substantial operational speed, transaction security, and retail credit expansion.
