APPLICATION OF INTERNET OF THINGS TECHNOLOGIES IN SMART MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

The Internet of Things has become one of the key technological foundations of smart manufacturing. By connecting industrial machines, sensors, controllers, production lines, and information systems, IoT enables continuous data collection, real-time monitoring, remote control, predictive maintenance, and data-driven decision-making. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of IoT technologies in smart manufacturing systems and evaluate their influence on productivity, equipment reliability, quality control, energy efficiency, and industrial management. A literature-based analytical approach was used to examine major IoT components, including industrial sensors, wireless communication, cloud and edge computing, cyber-physical systems, and intelligent monitoring platforms. The analysis indicates that IoT enables manufacturers to obtain detailed information about equipment condition and production processes in real time. This improves maintenance planning, reduces unplanned downtime, supports quality assurance, and allows more efficient use of energy and materials. However, successful implementation requires reliable connectivity, interoperability, cybersecurity, data governance, and appropriate technical infrastructure. IoT should therefore be considered a central element of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 development.
