Major effector loss reveals compensatory pathogenicity networks in a necrotrophic wheat pathogen

Evidence is provided that virulence is maintained in P. nodorum lacking three NEs by an epistatic and compensatory effector network, underpinned by changes in pathogen gene expression, which may provide a more tractable route to host resistance.

Virulence complexity of Australian Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici and implications for resistance breeding

A preliminary study highlights the potential diversity within the Australian Bgt population and emphasises the importance of continuous monitoring to support the effective deployment of resistance resources, ultimately reducing reliance on fungicides.

The bZIP transcription factor PnAda1 functions as a regulator of virulence, fungicide tolerance and necrotrophy in the wheat pathogen Parastagonospora nodorum

It is shown that the understudied bZIP transcription factor PnAda1 is an important downstream component of this PnPf2-regulatory network, and current understanding of the transcriptional network underlying virulence, metabolism and stress adaptation in an important fungal wheat pathogen is expanded.
