Characterization of Marinibium conchae gen. nov. sp. nov., a novel psychrotolerant mesophilic bacterium from mussels.
A novel bacterium, designated MH2013T was isolated from a mussel in Wando, Republic of Korea. Cells were short rods, Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile by flagella, oxidase- and catalase-positive. Growth occurred at optimum conditions of 30 °C, pH 8, in the presence of 2% salinity. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed higher similarity to Glaciecola nitratireducens FR1064T (95.9%), Glaciecola pallidula DSM 14239T (95.6%), Opacimonas viscosa LMIT007T (95.0%) and Paraglaciecola aestuariiviviens JDTFT (94.9%). The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0 (27.8%) and products present in summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH) (27.6%). The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. The genome is 4 Mbp (DNA G+C content, 44.5 mol%) with 3,334 protein-coding genes and 52 tRNAs. Comprehensive chemotaxonomic analysis revealed that the polar lipid profile and major fatty acid composition of strain MH2013T were distinctly different from those of its closest phylogenetic relatives. In combination with biochemical characterization, genomic and protein analyses, these findings strongly support the classification of strain MH2013T as a novel genus within the family Alteromonadaceae, for which the name Marinibium conchae gen. nov. sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is MH2013T (=KCTC 82212T =JCM 34296T).
