Sex‐Dependent Alterations in Behavioral Development of Mice Lacking α5‐Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors

ABSTRACT Complex neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and schizophrenia are characterized by impaired social interactions, cognitive deficits, and repetitive behaviors. Genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) have identified the α5 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α5‐nAChR) subunit as a...

α5-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors regulate state transitions in cortical networks and modulate susceptibility to epileptiform discharges

This study provides evidence for a novel cell-type-specific pathway in which α5-mediated nicotinic signaling tightly regulates state transitions in cortical networks, and reveals a critical role of α5-nAChRs in regulating cortical excitability and ictogenesis.
