322. Dysregulation of Cav3.1 and Cav1.2 in vulnerable DLPFC pyramidal neurons: a mechanistic link to cognitive disorders

Abstract Background The recently evolved dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is essential to higher cognition, working memory and abstract thought, with pyramidal cell microcircuits in layer III that are able to excite each other to keep information “in mind” without sensory stimulation1,2. However, these pyramidal...

Comparisons of the structure and function of higher cortical circuits in marmosets and macaques: Models for mental health disorders.

Overall, macaques are well suited to tasks featuring higher cognitive load and longer working memory delays, while the marmoset's highly social nature lends itself well to modeling social cognition, and they are excellent models for threat and reward processing.

Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex circuitry at the intersection of cognition and disease.

Schizophrenia, major depressive disorder (MDD), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) involve dysfunction of distributed cortical-subcortical networks that support complex cognitive processes and emotion regulation. Convergent evidence identifies the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) as a critical site of molecular, cellul...
