Integrating Financial Management, Marketing, and HR Development in MSMEs: A Case Study of UptoYou Cafe, Palu

This study aims to examine, in depth, the dynamics of integration among three crucial management functions—financial management, marketing, and human resource (HR) development—in a leading Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) in Palu City, using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the owner and manager of UptoYou Cafe, participant observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings show that UptoYou Cafe’s competitiveness is driven by the simultaneous integration of three practices: consistent social media-based digital marketing (Instagram and TikTok) that expands market reach, disciplined daily financial recording that safeguards cash-flow stability, and ongoing HR training and mentoring that strengthens service quality and customer satisfaction. The integration model reveals that marketing outcomes translate into financial gains only when supported by structured recordkeeping, while financial discipline in turn funds further marketing and HR investment, creating a mutually reinforcing cycle. The main obstacles identified are manual financial recordkeeping, limited digital literacy among staff, and weak technological infrastructure for integrating online ordering and payment systems. These findings offer a contextually grounded outlook for stakeholders seeking to design more effective, integrated MSME empowerment programs in Palu City.
