Impact of Phosphorus Solubilizing Microorganisms and Inorganic Sources of Phosphorus on Plant Dry Matter and Yield Attributes of Maize (Zea mays L.)

The present study was conducted at the Instructional Farm of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, during the kharif seasons of 2024 and 2025 to evaluate the effects of phosphorus-solubilising microorganisms (PSMs) and inorganic phosphorus sources on plant dry matter and yield attributes of maize. The experiment was laid out in a randomised block design comprising 12 treatment combinations with three replications. The recorded attributes included plant dry matter, number of cobs per plant, number of grains per cob and seed index. The combined application of PSMs and inorganic phosphorus sources significantly increased plant dry matter, the number of grains per cob and the seed index compared with the control, whereas the number of cobs per plant was not significantly affected. Enhanced phosphorus availability through microbial inoculants, together with an adequate supply of inorganic phosphorus, promoted root development, nutrient uptake and photosynthetic activity, resulting in improved reproductive growth and grain formation. The highest values for plant dry matter and the significant yield attributes were recorded under the integrated application of PSMs with the recommended dose of phosphorus fertiliser. The findings indicate that integrating phosphorus-solubilising microorganisms with inorganic phosphorus sources can support maize productivity under the conditions of the study. This integrated approach may improve phosphorus availability and the efficiency of phosphorus nutrition while maintaining the measured yield attributes.

Effect of Nitrogen and Organic Nutrient Management on Growth Dynamics of Sorghum-Chickpea Cropping System

A field experiment was conducted at the Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during two consecutive kharif seasons 2024, 2025 and then after the succeeding crop in rabi 2024-25 and 2025-26, to study the effect of nitrogen and organic nutrient management on growth dynamics of sorghum-chickpea cropping system. An experiment was laid out in split plot design, comprising four nitrogen management practices in main plot treatments (control, 100% recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN), 75% RDN + 25% N through FYM and 50% RDN + 50% N through FYM), five organic sources of nutrients in subplot treatments viz., control, seed treatment with beejamrit (200 ml kg-1 seeds), jeevamrit during each irrigation (500 litre ha-1), ghanjeevamrit as basal application (500 kg ha-1) and vermiwash foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS (10%), replicated three times. The experimental results showed that application of 100% RDF recorded significantly higher values of growth parameters viz., plant height and dry matter accumulation in sorghum, which was statistically at par with 75% RDN + 25% N through FYM. Whereas, residual effect of 50% RDN + 50% N through FYM recorded significantly higher values of growth parameters, which was statistically comparable with 75% RDN + 25% N through FYM. Among subplot treatments, application of ghanjeevamrit and its residual effect was found to be superior over the rest of the treatments and comparable with application of jeevamrit @ 500 l ha-1 during each irrigation. The results showed that integrated nitrogen management through 50-75% RDN with addition of FYM along with ghanjeevamrit as basal application had positive effect on growth parameters of sorghum-chickpea cropping system.

Effect of Mulching and Agro-chemicals on growth parameters of late sown wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

A field experiment was conducted during the rabi seasons of 2023-24 and 2024-25 to assess the mulching and agro-chemicals on plant population and growth of wheat at the Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur. The experiment was laid out a split-plot design with four mulching levels in main plots (No mulch, 2 t mulch ha-1, 4 t mulch ha-1, 6 t mulch ha-1) and five agro-chemicals treatments in sub-plots (control, KCl 0.2%, CalCl2 , 0.1 %, Salicylic acid 100 ppm, Thiourea 100 ppm) replicated thrice. Results indicated that growth parameters were significantly influenced by mulching levels. 4 t mulch ha-1 recorded the highest plant population growth (15.65), plant height (45.62, 76.66 and 88.91cm) and dry matter accumulation (16.58, 35.41 and 46.36g plant-1). Among agro-chemicals treatment application of salicylic 100 ppm recorded the maximum growth parameters like as plant height (44.50, 70.57 and 82.60 cm) and dry matter accumulation (15.93, 30.97 and 42.81g plant-1) followed by KCl 0.2 % and CaCl2 0.1 %.
